I know I’m late in the game in reviewing The Girl of Fire and Thorns series by Rae Carson, but I just finished the trilogy for the second time, and fell in love with these books all over again. I would start the series again–this week–if it wasn’t for that pesky need to live in the real world for awhile.
The prose transcends most fantasy novels I’ve enjoyed, but the complexity of characters is what pulls this series to the top of my favorites list. They are gut-wrenchingly real, likable, hatable, relatable…
Elisa is quite possibly my favorite heroine of all time. At first, she is a fragile and reluctant bearer of a powerful godstone, making her a target of political warfare and religious fanatics alike. Over the course of the series she changes in every way. Her strength and courage grow until she becomes a fierce protector of her people. And Hector? Move over Mr. Darcy, because you don’t stand a chance next to this new literary heartthrob. Who’s with me?
If you haven’t read The Girl of Fire and Thorns books yet, your life is incomplete.
